It is increasingly important to interior space in cars. Especially now, with the advent of electric cars, which are simpler and have fewer components, you can see better distributed and more spacious cabins. And it always helps if some elements are reduced in size as well. An example are these new passport-sized speakers, which could represent a significant leap in the industry. It seems almost certain that they will contribute to clearing up car interiors in a smart way in the medium term.
because it is a creation of LG Display, a company that is part of the Korean technology conglomerate, and they have already given a commercialization date. They will be available during the first half of 2023 and are called the Thin Actuator Sound Solution, referring to how thin these speakers are. We are talking about measurements of 150×90 mm, but above all about a thickness of just 2.5 mm and a weight of 40 grams. As we said, it would be something similar to a passport, being also 30% lighter and 10% thinner than other speakers.
It’s crazy like LG Display has managed to stand out from others Similar systems that have not been able to further reduce their dimensions due to elements such as the voice coil, the cone or the magnet that make them up. A different technology is used here, which allows the loudspeaker to vibrate on display panels and in various materials inside the car body. In this way, an immersive 3D sound experience is achieved without the need for large speakers.
In fact, this technological novelty can install almost anywhere from inside the vehicle. We are talking about places like the dashboard, the roof lining, the pillars or the headrests. In addition, the speaker grills would be dispensed with, since that output is not necessary in this innovative system. As if that were not enough, in its construction rare earths such as neodymium are not used (Nd) which is normally used in conventional loudspeakers. A solution that has earned LG Display a price and that we may not be able to see for long.
