The McLaren 720S says goodbye and its successor is already being sold (without knowing what it is like)

Although it may not seem like it, more than five years have passed since the launch of the mclaren 720s. The model corresponding to the brand’s Super Series range has aged correctly for its captivating aesthetics and also for other more recent derivatives such as the McLaren 765LT. However, came the time to finish your production and those of Woking have confirmed that they have a successor in the making. It has not been revealed, but it is already accepting orders and we will even have to wait to get hold of it.

The McLaren 720S was the first model in release the Monocage II, a carbon fiber monocoque that has brought much joy to the brand in recent years. It was also positioned as an absolute benchmark for its performance, as it also had a new engine, the M480T. It’s about a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 which replaced the previous 3.8-liter and develops 720 hp and 770 Nm of torque. Now an inheritor is prepared for which no information has been given, but which seems to be working well anyway.

Nicolas Brown, McLaren’s chief executive officer for the Americas, confirmed that orders for the 720S replacement were already underway. When closed orders of the current model, that option was given to buyers, many of them accepting without knowing the product in depth. In any case, Brown said that “it is a refinement of the current model, it is not a completely new vehicle.” Such is its success that the successor to the 720S is already sold out well into 2024so potential buyers who wait for its launch will also have to wait for its delivery.

It is not yet clear if McLaren will bet on conventional combustion mechanics like the current 720S or whether to introduce electrification. We have the example of the McLaren Artura, which is a plug-in hybrid with the 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 engine as the base, but if they have said that it will be a facelift, it is unlikely that it will use that propulsion system. In any case, we can expect a power of more than 750 CV and some improved features that they leave behind the 0 to 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds and the maximum of 341 km/h of the current one.
