There is little left to meet Toyota Hilux 100% electric

A little over a year has passed since Toyota (finally) presented its plan dedicated to electric vehicles, an announcement that included the appearance of 16 concepts. Among them wasa Toyota Pickup EV, which got us thinking about what a future battery-powered Hilux could be.

At the end of 2022, The Japanese brand surprised the world with the presentation in Thailand of the Hilux BEV Concept, a vehicle based on a Hilux current simple cabin, and that had modifications typical of a battery model, such as the “sealed” grill, a charging port (located above the left front wheel), and what would be the base of the batteries, placed in the pick-up floor.

Although Toyota did not reveal any technical data, it is more than clear that it is working on an electric variant of the Hilux, a development that has accelerated in recent months, like all the electrification strategy that the brand carries out after the change of its CEOwhich happened last April, and which had Akio Toyoda’s replacement in Koji Sato.

The momentum that the Japanese brand is taking in electrical matters is such that the 100% electric Hilux could see the light of day in the short term. This was recently hinted at by Australian managers of Toyota itself, in dialogue with a local media outlet. Its origin is not minor, taking into account that in the oceanic country the Hilux is one of the best-selling models.

Specifically, the executives assured that The acceleration of the electric strategy will include all current vehicles of the brand. Being the Hilux the great protagonist of the firm in Australia, it is decided that the statement includes the medium pick-up.

And when would the electric Hilux be launched? It is very possible that it will happen during 2024, in Thailand, country where the aforementioned Hilux BEV Concept was largely developed.

With the popularity that the Toyota Hilux has in Mexico, it would not be surprising if its 100% battery-powered version reaches the national market, although It will be necessary to see what plans Toyota México has for its eventual arrival -or not-. Will it do so together with the new generation of the pick-up? For now, there is no further information about it.
