40% CHANCE OF RAIN
40% chance of seeing water during Austrian sprint qualifying. It seems that it will be very similar to the one we live in Canada.
RESULTS OF YESTERDAY’S CLASSIFICATION
Despite the fact that the format is somewhat different and the conditions as well, we remember how yesterday’s qualifying turned out, which can serve as a guide for what we are going to see in 10 minutes.
WET TRACK RIGHT NOW
During the night it rained heavily at the Red Bull Ring and this morning the drivers arrived at the circuit with a completely wet track. After the Formula 3 sprint race (Pepe Martí finished sixth), the track has dried out quite a bit, but he is still on the border to decide whether to start with intermediates or dry tyres.
LANDO NORRIS, THE SURPRISE GUEST AT THE TOP OF THE CLASSIFICATION
The McLaren driver is once again at the top of the standings thanks to the great improvements that have been introduced in the Austrian GP. The Briton finished fourth in qualifying and is an extra rival for Ferrari, Mercedes and Aston Martin.
FERRARI, VERY CLOSE TO RED BULL
The 2022 Austrian Grand Prix was the last victory for the Italian brand, specifically for Charles Leclerc. And a year later, after a difficult start to the season, they seem closer than ever to Red Bull. Leclerc finished second in the standings, less than a tenth behind Verstappen, with Carlos Sainz behind them. And for the first time in a year, they dream of returning to the top of the podium.
VERSTAPPEN POINTS THE GUILTY OF THE TRACK LIMITS
47 laps canceled during qualifying led to a gruesome spectacle that baffled drivers, teams and fans. The Dutch driver, despite the pole position, ended up very angry with the issue of track limits and pointed to the one he considers guilty of not solving it, an unexpected “culprit”.
FERNANDO ALONSO AND THE PROBLEM HE HAD IN CLASSIFICATION
The Spaniard is calm despite finishing in seventh position in yesterday’s standings. He calmed down the fans by stating that the poor qualifying was due to him having an unforeseen issue with the track limits that conditioned his performance in Q3.
ANOTHER TRIAL BY FIRE FOR SERGIO PÉREZ
The Mexican is going through his worst moment since he was at Red Bull. He has four consecutive classifications out of Q3 and from the Austrian team they are very unhappy with their performance. ‘Checo’ is more in need than ever of getting a great result to calm the waters.
TRACK LIMITS, AUSTRIA’S BIG PROBLEM
During qualifying on Friday at the Austrian GP, what has been common in recent years at the Red Bull Ring was experienced: laps canceled due to track limits. Yesterday, up to 47 laps were canceled for this reason, so we will have to count even more for today, taking into account that there is less room for maneuver in the event that a time is cancelled.
SPRINT CLASSIFICATION FORMAT
The format of the sprint classification is very similar to that of the ‘qualy’ to use, but with small differences. The first of these is duration. Q1, Q2, and Q3 will be reduced to 12, 10, and 8 minutes respectively. The other favors the favorites. In Q3 there is no obligation to use a new compound, so many can save a new set for the race.
