Ferrari plays Carlos Sainz again with a controversial ‘undercut’ by Charles Leclerc in Hungary

It is increasingly clear who is the number 1 of Ferrari. Who is the right eye of the ‘Scuderia’. Who is the authentic leader of those from Maranello. Yes, looking at the World Cup classification it should not be like that, but the Italians’ commitment to Charles Leclerc instead of Carlos Sainz became more than evident at the Hungarian Grand Prix.

From the beginning to the end. From an outcome in which Sainz stayed at 0.7 of a Monegasque sanctioned after the decision, controversial decision, by Ferrari. Because the transalpines decided. They decided to give advantage to the pilot who, of the two, was worse positioned at the Hungarian ring.

With Sainz ahead of Charles, Ferrari sent Leclerc to the pits for exactly throw an ‘undercut’. So that Leclerc, after the final stops of one and the other, would gain the position from Carlos. And yes, that’s what happened.

Speeding… and penalty

The Monegasque was so turned on that he forgot about the speed limit in the pits. He took a 5-second penalty, weighing down the result of a Ferrari team that previously messed with Leclerc in his first pit lane stop.

But he had already given her the upper hand. Because at the beginning of the test, with Carlos Sainz with soft tires, they prevented the man from Madrid from rolling ahead of the Monegasque. He started eleventh, but before three corners he was already behind Leclerc.

With better tires. With some to attack. To be aggressive. But not. He could not. They didn’t let him. And since they didn’t let him Sainz had no choice but to loosen up so as not to destroy his wheels.

Strange decisions by Ferrari, at least strange if you think about the good of the team. In Hungary, the two finished behind the two Mercedes… and who knows if it would have been the same if they had taken another path. Of having prioritized Carlos Sainz instead of Charles Leclerc.
