The reality is that each biker does it in their own way; consciously or not, the technique will be correct, however, there are very important points to take into account so that your motorcycle does not have damage and its operation is optimal. In 5 points we will deny myths and realities about what is the best way to do it.
1.- Never wash it when it is hot: TRUE
Many times, when we return from the ride, we want our darling to “go” to sleep freshly washed, but it is not good for the engine to receive pressure from the pressure washer and especially with cold water. Sudden changes in temperature can lead to the distemper of the most exposed metals: brake discs, engine covers or electrical parts.
Tip: Wait for it to cool down or wash it the next day.

2.- “Ordinary” soap or detergent does not cause harm: FALSE
If you are one of those who uses any type of soap to wash your motorcycle, you are making a huge mistake. These products have agents that are harmful to components, plastics, metals, hoses, etc. they are difficult to remove, even wasting a lot of water to rinse and the cleaning results are very poor; avoid it as soon as possible.
Tip: Use special products for motorcycle cleaning or washing, special degreaser for engines or a dry cleaning kit. There are many available on the market.

3.- Water must not enter the exhaust: TRUE
It is important to take care not to put water through the exhaust pipe or point the pressure washer directly at it. Water can run down to the catalytic converter and collect causing irreparable damage, the motorcycle could even “drown” and not start.
Tip: Use a muffler “blocker” every time you wash the bike. They sell them at almost any hardware store.

4.- Remove dirt with a pressure washer: FALSE
We know how comfortable and practical this is, especially after driving through mud or dirt, but we run the risk of damaging a sensor or detaching parts, cables, etc. with the pressure of the hydro-washing machine.
Tips:
- Wet the bike with a small bucket
- Apply special motorcycle soap or degreaser and let it work
- With a cloth, remove as much dirt as possible.
- Rinse with the pressure washer, without applying direct pressure; Keep half a meter away.

5.- The chain is washed separately: TRUE
Regardless of the good grooming you give your motorcycle, remember that the chain requires special maintenance. It is not valid to clean it with any type of soap or lubricate with any type of grease.
Tip: Before washing the whole motorcycle, you can clean the chain with the help of a special brush or brush, and a little bit of gasoline. Do not forget to apply special lubricant after you have finished the entire cleaning process.

These simple steps can help you improve your washing technique, the care of your motorcycle, and guarantee its correct operation.
Happy miles!
