It is quite common for us to review the fleets of some State security forces due to the interest that we all have in the vehicles. The most recent have been the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross for the Civil Guard, although now we see how the Madrid Municipal Police it also renews its park with electrified models. Currently, one of the police that has the most cars, since they add up to no less than 470 units. And the role of the electrified BMWs it is more than remarkable.
The German brand has made delivery of 169 vehicles to the Madrid Municipal Police, all of them having a certain electrical component, in an agreement that will last for five years. Due to the demands of the city, it was essential that they have the ZERO label or the DGT ECO label and they have achieved it with a very varied fleet. A third of these delivered vehicles are plug-in hybrids and electric, while the rest have 48V Mild Hybrid technology. Depending on their characteristics, each one will have a specific function.
We start with the BMW i3, the only 100% electric on the list will be in charge of patrolling as a priority through the interior of Central Madrid due to its ideal conditions in urban environments. Also with the ZERO label, the Municipal Police receives some units from the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer 225xe. This is the plug-in hybrid variant of the 2 Series Active Tourer, which is very balanced in terms of performance and efficiency with its 245 HP of power and up to 80 kilometers of electric range.
Some units of the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer 220i have also been delivered from that model, the gasoline that gets the ECO label thanks to the Mild Hybrid system. For highway patrol, probably the best is the bmw 530i, the gasoline version with microhybridization of the 5 Series Berlina that will also be part of the Madrid police. Finally, the most curious case is that of the BMW X5 xDrive30d, the SUV in its Mild Hybrid diesel version. In this case, they will receive additional equipment such as a snow shovel, winch, traction tape and hook to be able to face all kinds of situations.
