Last summer Bugatti wowed the world at Pebble Beach with the new 1600bhp W16 Mistral, a glitzy swan song for its W16 engine. At the same time that he was presenting his car publicly, many billionaires around the world were upset to learn that his 99 units were all sold. Now, this feeling is repeated with the children of those magnates. And it is that the brand has announced the Bugatti Baby II Carbon Editiona vintage-style “toy” available only to Mistral owners.
The Bugatti Baby II Carbon Edition measures 2.8 meters in length and has been developed together with The Little Car Company. Its design evokes that of the Type 57 Roadster Grand Raid which influenced the design of the W16 Mistral even more than the Chiron on which it is based. That’s because the 2019 Bugatti Baby II is a modern recreation of Ettore Bugatti’s Bugatti Baby created in 1926. The modern version is a 75% scale model of the Type 35 roadster with a 4 to 10 kW electric motor. power. It has the repurposed classic gauges and a four-spoke wooden steering wheel like the Type 35.
Made of carbon fiber, as you might suspect, there are visible elements around the radiator and grill, dashboard, interior panels, mirror support or in the center of the steering wheel. The company ensures that the horizontal design LED headlights simulate those of the W16 Mistral.
The side-mounted spare wheel and bracket from other Bugatti Baby IIs have been removed to create light weight. So it can reach speeds of up to 68 km/h, as long as you press the top speed button, designed like the one on the real model. That indicates that it is far from the original Baby (they were smaller, for children). Now there is no legal age to drive them (you cannot drive them on roads as they are not approved, only on private property), but since the aluminum pedals are adjustable, even an adult 1.90 meters tall can ride them.
Its price is €80,000, but the biggest obstacle is that the child’s father has reserved one of the 99 units of the W16 Mistral for five million. And be careful, then it can be personalized, adapting each Bugatti Baby II Carbon Edition so that the son’s vehicle is as exclusive and personalized as the father’s.
