Fernando Alonso, “convinced” that Aston Martin will be champion in F1: “It’s a matter of time”

The motivation of Fernando Alonso it does not have limits. At 41, he continues to insist on becoming Formula 1 champion again. That’s why he changed Alpine for Aston Martina team of which he speaks wonders and who he sees as victorious: “It’s a matter of time…”.

In an interview on the official Aston Martin website, Alonso reviewed the options starting in 2023: “This is a very special opportunity for me with this team at this point in my career. I have been preparing myself physically and mentally for this challenge, and I see this project as a winner”.

“We have the talent on this team. When we go to compete, we need to execute each race to perfection, to maximize the results of the ingenuity that has been put into the car,” said the new driver of the green team.

He highlights the “ambition” he has found in this new project: “The team is determined to become a championship contender and will do whatever it takes to get there. This ambition is attractive to any racing driver. You see all the investment, the new factory…”.

“How long are you willing to wait for a competitive car?” they ask. Alonso does not give dates and understands that it will not be immediate: “I am not thinking about deadlines and how long it will take the team to win races. I will take it race by race, season by season. The important thing is that we continue to progress.”

“I will use all my experience and all my knowledge to help the team shorten the time it takes to become World Champions. Will I be behind the wheel when that time comes? Nobody knows. It is impossible to predict”, indicates the two-time champion of the Great Circus.

His preseason

Alonso has shared several videos physically crushing himself. In addition, he has gotten into the car twice: in Abu Dhabi and in Sherry. “I’ve been training since December. This preseason has been much calmer than the last few years. I had the bike accident in 2021 and the following winter they had to remove some of the plates that were used to rebuild my jaw. This winter I was able to focus everything as long as I’d like to train. I’m in better shape than the last few seasons”.

“When you get to February, it feels like you’ve been out of the car for a long time – every year it feels like that. I can’t wait to get in the car and start the season. I feel good. I’m ready“, says the Spaniard.
