We have already seen the differences between types of insurance and discovered which is the most appropriate insurance depending on the type of car you want to insure. But it doesn’t matter what you’ve spent, your insurance will not cover you in the following cases and you must be responsible for the damages and any compensation.
1. If you drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs
If you drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs you would be committing a crime that you consciously have proof that it is expressly prohibited. Not only are you endangering your safety and that of the environment, like your insurer will ignore you in case you cause any type of damage. Likewise and obviously do not try to get the sanctions to cover you.
2. If you transport more passengers or more cargo than allowed
Once again, we would be committing a crime where full responsibility for the damages and the corresponding sanctions will fall entirely on the driver.
(Watch out for microurbans here, most of them approved for only four occupants).
3. If you drive without the ITV in order or without a license
In both cases you expose yourself to assume full responsibility for what is considered a very serious infraction. All derived events as well as the corresponding economic sanctions will fall on the driver in question.
4. If you participate in an illegal race
If you believe you are Vin Diesel in Fast and Furious and participate clandestinely in a race, all responsibility will fall on your peril and risk. Even arguing that it was a race on a circuit, this argument will be useless since there are specific policies for those cases.
5. If you park on a dock
Be careful in the docks, because many insurers are not responsible if something happens to your vehicle. Also, if you travel with your car in ship and this one sinks, the ship’s cargo insurance will pay you.
6. If you have an impact with a family member or neighbor
In this case it is necessary to specify. The insurer will cover you if the collision has been involuntary and the company can corroborate it.
In the absence of evidence, and given that it is an accident between acquaintances (a relative, a neighbor, a friend…), the insurer may allege fraudulent intent.
7. If you drive on a dirt road
With a few exceptions, many insurers will not cover you in case you have some kind of accident or breakdown while driving on unpaved roads. Likewise, those that do financially cover the damage are likely not to provide mechanical assistance.
8. If in the event of an accident, you do not help the injured party
According to the law, in the event of an accident, and having the capacity to do so, it is mandatory to go to the aid of the injured person. If, on the other hand, you ran away after causing an accident, or did not help a pedestrian in the event of being run over, you would be committing a criminally punishable crime.
The insurer would indemnify the victims of the accident and these expenses may fall on you.
9. If a natural disaster, war or nuclear accident occurs
Faced with this situation, insurers have no obligation to insure you as they make it very explicit in the policies. In this case, you will have to claim before the Insurance Compensation Consortium.
10. If you do not approve the changes and new accessories in your car
If you modify aspects such as the tires or add accessories such as a GPS that did not come standard, the insurer can argue that the car that appears on the policy does not match the one that suffered the accident. In this case, the insurer will cover the damage to a third party, but you can wash your hands of it in your case.
11. If you are under 25 years of age
Insurers do not find it entirely profitable to insure novice drivers. That is why, based on statistics and the lack of experience of young people behind the wheel, it will either be extremely difficult for you to find a company that insures you or it will be extremely expensive. Many people therefore insure the car in the name of an older third party, the main driver being a person under 25. In this case, if the main driver has an accident, the insurer will completely ignore it.
