The team Mercedes has published a letter addressed to its fans to apologize for the lack of performance of the W14 in it Bahrain Grand Prixin which lewis hamilton and George Russell finished more than 50 seconds behind the winner, max verstappen almost 15 of the Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso.
In the statement, the German team admits that seeing that its new car is far from fighting for the leading positions is being “painful” for the team: “bahrain hurt. He hurt each of us who face each season with the determination to fight for world championships. The team as a whole was hurt after having invested so much effort in a car that has not lived up to our expectations.”
They ask for calm
In addition to apologizing, the German team asks its fans for peace of mind to reverse the situation. In the letter they assure that they need calm to address a comeback which they are already working on.
“We will not panic or react hastily. In a spotlight as intense as that of the Formula 1, people are quick to point fingers or look for scapegoats. But you know us better than that,” they say from Mercedes.
They demand unity
After the failure in Bahrain, there have been several of the team’s heavyweights who have stressed that the team is united in the search for solutions to the lack of performance of the car. In fact, after Lewis Hamilton’s criticism of Mercedes, Toto Wolff He replied that everyone in Brackley rows in the same direction. Today, in the letter, the same idea is emphasized.
“We will hold our heads high and take this journey one step at a time, together. We are Mercedes. We know the standards to which we aspire, and no one flinches when we look at the mountain we have to climb. We are already working to change the course”, they state in the statement.
“These are the moments when character is forged; the moments when a team becomes greater than the sum of its parts, tackling difficult problems and conquering them. We are together through thick and thin: from Toto, Lewis and George, to every woman and man in the Brackley and Brixworth factories. And we love that challenge.”
This statement comes after Toto Wolff himself questioned Mercedes’ ‘zero pontoon’ concept in Bahrain and hinted that they value the option of copying the model from Red Bull, Aston Martin and Ferrari.
