The Easter period is always divided into two phases and today we are going to talk about those who start traveling today to enjoy almost 10 days off. The DGT forecasts 4.3 million trips and, as always, we indicate the details that you must take into account for your trips.
Along with the summer holidays, Easter is one of the most complicated of the year, as the number of volume of trips that are carried out in a short space of time, with similar origins and destinations and carried out on the same days and hours. Also, compared to last year, fuel prices are not so skyrocketing and the trip will be considerably cheaper than 365 days ago.
Write down these keys to save fuel at Easter!
These lines are dedicated to those drivers who are fortunate enough to be able to start these days of rest today, Friday, in an operation that according to the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) will begin at 3:00 p.m. although here the Executive even foresees their return on Sunday, April 2, although surely there are many who decide to extend it until April 9. It will be then when they meet the drivers who will leave in a second step, which will begin on Wednesday, April 5. The DGT also provides in some cases that the return will take place on Monday, April 10, a holiday in some communities and with the absence of schools for the little ones.

Regardless of when you decide to go out for a few days off, you should keep in mind that these are especially problematic days on the road. Not in vain, Throughout the entire Easter 2022 Special Operation, 25 fatal accidents were recorded in which 27 people dieds. To prevent these disastrous figures from repeating this year, the DGT insists on the importance of avoiding risky behaviors behind the wheel such as distractions, speed or alcohol, the latter causing one in three fatal traffic accidents.
In fact, according to the 2021 Report “Toxicological findings in fatalities in traffic accidents” from the National Institute of Toxicology and Forensic Sciences, almost half of the drivers killed in traffic accidents who underwent autopsy had the presence of alcohol and/or other drugs in the blood, a percentage that rises to 75% in the specific case of alcoholall of them with very high blood alcohol levels (equal to or greater than 1.2 g/L).
Special Traffic Device for Holy Week
To guarantee the road safety of all those who travel during these two phases of Holy Week and, at the same time, facilitate mobility and fluidity on the roads, the DGT has during these days the maximum availability of the means at your disposal. In this sense, we refer to both technicians: fixed and mobile speed control radars, helicopters and drones, cameras and camouflaged vans to control the use of mobile phones and seat belts; as humans, including agents of the Civil Guard Traffic Groupcivil servants from the Traffic Management Centers, helicopter patrols and personnel in charge of maintaining equipment and installing road measures.
In addition, during these first three days of Operation that will be replicated at the beginning of the second phase, traffic management and regulation measures such as the installation of reversible lanes that facilitate movement into or out of urban centers depending on the needs, the stoppage of works and the restrictions on certain merchandise vehicles, in specific sections and hours.
The DGT has recommended that the state of the roads be checked before starting the trip, for which it makes the following channels available to drivers: InternetTwitter (@DGTes and @informationDGT), Facebookthe telephone number 011 and the informative bulletins of radio and television stations.
