“I know how they feel, we have suffered seven years”

Red Bull has to forget about its rivals. It is the opinion of Marko Helmutadvisor of Red Bull and head of the academy of the energy drink team. The Austrian believes that his team should take advantage of the indisputable dominance of the RB19 at the start of the season to extend the advantage over their rivals, since there is no guarantee that it will last all year.

One of the biggest victims of Red Bull’s dominance is Mercedes. The star team has gone from fighting for victories at the end of 2022 to being one second per lap behind the Austrians, and they have even been surpassed by Aston Martin.

Faced with this situation, Marko assures that he understands the frustration of Toto Wolff, director of the German team. “I don’t care who the person we are talking about is, the most important thing is that we are the first. I know how Toto Wolff feels now, we’ve been through it for seven years.“, Marko explained in an interview with ‘Sport Bild’.

Marko assures that Mercedes should change the design of its car and opt for a more traditional concept, copying Red Bull, although he believes that Wolff does not do so out of ego.

“Copying is a daily business in Formula 1 and there is nothing dishonorable about this matter either. This business is all about having the fastest car possible and celebrating the successes you achieve. You can’t accept years of underachievement because you’re too proud to admit that others have done a better job,” says Marko.

The Red Bull adviser has also spoken about Ferrari and the rumors about the possible departure of its two pilots. He assures that he would not understand if they let Carlos Sainz out, while he does not rule out a departure of Charles Leclerc at the end of this season.

“It does not make sense that Ferrari wants to do without Carlos, you’re doing a good job. With Charles, it is common for the driver to have to get a minimum number of points in the season, more or less, until a little later than the summer break. If they don’t reach that number, both parties can terminate the contractthat clause allowed Sebastian Vettel sign for Ferrari in 2015″, explains Marko.
