Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso. Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll. Teammates and, yes, with the same car. With the same Aston Martin. With an identical AMR23. Yes, the same in many aspects for results that could not be more disparate. Because both have, in the F1 World Championship, the biggest difference between drivers with the same colors.
Are 63 points there are between one and another. If many. Too many. And there are five podiums in seven races by Alonso for zero by Lance. In classification, practically the same…
Now, Stroll has wanted to mark distances and ‘separate’ from Alonso. Doing so. Take pressure off. Trying to avoid the more than long shadow of a Fernando who has embittered practically all of his teammates. Because except on three occasions, and throughout Fernando’s 20 seasons in F1, he has always defeated the one he had next to the garage.
Seeing this, Lance has the key: “I know how I like a car… I’m doing my thing.”
“I learned a lot from Alonso, without a doubt. But it is always important be your own artist and not follow someone too much,” he insists.
Because Stroll wants to go his own way: “I focus on what I do. Every driver drives differently.”
The relationship between the two is formidable: “It’s very good. He’s experienced. He brings a lot of knowledge. I enjoy working with him.”
