The future of Renault (and that of most manufacturers) it will be fully electric. Work is already underway on that base and preparing the cars that we will see on our roads in the next decade. One of them will be the electric Renault 5, which has already been shown conceptually and whose production version is expected by 2024. Now Renault shows its CMF-B EV platforman innovative architecture that will give life to the next small electric cars within the French firm and other brands.
The CMF-B EV is the result of the work of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance and will give life to a good number of electric urban. Gone are the times of the Renault Zoe, as more efficient vehicles arrive in every way. The first nine “mules” have already been created with this platform and are being tests in all kinds of conditions. The brand’s technical centers in Lardy (Paris) and Aubevoye (Normandy) are being used, although they have also traveled to Swedish Lapland to test their resistance with low adhesion and extreme temperatures.
THE CMF-B EV consists of a modular architecture that integrates the powertrain and battery. The electric motor is a synchronous motor with a wound rotor that has very small dimensions and stands out for its efficiency. It benefits from new DC/DC converter (to go from 400 V battery to 12 V), charger and power management control. Everything is integrated and that makes it 20 kg lighter than the current Zoe, while wins in dynamism and sensations at the wheel. The battery is also 15kg lighter and will have higher range levels.
One of the keys to the new platform is that uses 70% of the components of the CMF-B conventional used by the Renault Clio and Captur. That’s what makes your manufacture up to 30% cheaper than in the case of the one that gives life to Zoe. Cost savings will make it easier for the next electric Renault 5 to have an adjusted price.
Not many details of this model have been given yet, but the brand promises that it will be reference in all sections. In the dynamic, they confirm a multi-link rear axle and also the very low center of gravity, something that always helps driving.
