Of course, Alonso wants to emphasize that Red Bull is the great favourite: “They are better, they have done a great job at Red Bull, they deserve to be where they are. but there are a couple of weekends like this where we have more chances, which is the worst race, but theoretically we have more if, for example, they have gearbox problems, on Sunday, as they have had in other races, your options automatically go up in this circuit…”.
About the agreement with Honda, he is convinced that it is good news: “It shows the commitment that Aston Martin has to win races and championships in the future, and to be independent creating its gearboxes and the rest of the car and I think that the only way to really be 100 percent in control of everything, especially from 2026, integrating everything together, chassis and engine, there are only benefits. It’s a big sign for everyone.”
Will it continue in 2026?
Alonso has recognized that it will not be easy: “Well, I will be 44 by then, I don’t know what I will do in 2026, it is still early. Now I feel good, fresh, motivated and fast but I know that one day I will get up and maybe I will no longer feel that, or don’t see me quickly and I’ll raise my hand to stop.”
