Volkswagen ID.4 2024 first contact in Mexico with a highly anticipated electric SUV

Electric vehicles have a road with obstacles in MexicoQuite the opposite of what is experienced in other continents such as Europe, where the percentage of electric cars will be close to 30% in 2025 and will exceed 70% by 2030.

According to his estimates, by 2025 the market share of 100% electric vehicles in China will reach 32.3% and will rise to 58.5% in 2030. For its part, in the US the percentage of sales of this type of car will be 16.4% in 2025 and 44.8% five years later.

In Mexico in 2022, 1,090,000 new cars were sold, only 0.5 percent were fully electric vehicles.

Despite the low volume of electric car sales in Mexico, Volkswagen already plans to play in the electric vehicle segment with the ID.4 which was placed within the Top 5 sales in Europe in 2021, a great position if we take into account a pandemic and the shortage of the famous microchips.

Currently there is an ID for each segment, which is made up of five models.

And the idea is that the family continues to grow, the Volkswagen Group is making a significant investment dedicated to the development of electromobility by 2026.

If you wonder why the decision to bring the ID.4 to our country, the answer is simple, this SUV is manufactured at the Chattanooga, Tennessee plant, it is marketed in the United States and it is easy to place it in our market.

To enter the electric vehicle market, Volkswagen plans to bring the top-of-the-range version, which has more equipment and power.

The Volkswagen ID.4 arrived in our garage, something I like is that in terms of design they did not look for those futuristic designs to try to attract attention, but quite the opposite, we see a minimalist design, the illuminated brand logo stands out in front , flanked by a strip of LED lighting that gives it a lot of character, the Matrix LED headlights also take center stage.

Inside, the only thing you will find is “harmony” with high-quality materials, a couple of screens, the 5.3-inch instrument panel and the 12-inch central screen from which you control a large part of the functions, the control of gears is located next to the instrument panel.

Despite being a 4.6-meter SUV, the cabin is spacious and bright, the glass roof helps a lot, the seats are comfortable, the rear seats offer good space and comfort, the trunk is comparable to a larger SUV, point to favor.

And if you wonder how ID4 moves?

This SUV has a pair of engines, each one gives power to one of the axes, together they generate 295 horsepower, in terms of autonomy we are talking about 400 kilometers with a full charge and in a fast charging station it will take you 30 minutes to fill your batteries.

And of course we cannot leave security aside, Volkswagen ID4 has 6 airbags, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, blind spot detector, reversing camera to name a few.

At the wheel there is not much to say, it is electric so the response to pressing the accelerator is immediate, the braking has a pleasant touch, the suspension is firm, but not at all uncomfortable which helps when you take sharp curves.

I am left with pleasant sensations and yes, there are always details to improve, however, Volkswagen ID.4 is a good SUV for day to day without you having to worry about autonomy.

His arrival in Mexico is planned at the end of this 2023 without confirmed prices.
