George Russell took ahead of Carlos Sainz into the first corner and ruined the Ferrari’s race at the United States Grand Prix. The team called him into the pits for a radiator problem. And there was the car. Another test ruined by the maneuver of another pilot.
Although everyone blames Russell, the boss of Ferrari, Mattia Binottohas left a message that has caught the attention of many, describing Sainz as “innocent”: “Carlos came out innocently in the first round.”
Does Ferrari blame Sainz for what happened in that first corner? It would be surprising seeing that clearly the Ferrari is touched from behind by the Mercedes. The Spaniard, in fact, has been very hard on Russell: “What can you do? Normally, drivers who are in the top-4 don’t make these kinds of mistakes.”
“It is clear that with my zero points, five seconds is nothing… but I’m not going to get involved in evaluating the FIA’s decisions“, he commented in ‘As’. Now he is fifth in the drivers’ championship, although with Lewis Hamilton very close (only four points).
Now Sainz can only aspire to be fourth in the championship. Ahead of him is precisely a Russell who apologized for what happened and assumed that the mistake had been his.
