AlphaTauri it is coming off a rather difficult 2022 campaign, where it finished ninth in the constructors’ championship after failing to take advantage of opportunities under the new rules.
The team’s biggest problem was the lack of consistency with their car, with the French Pierre Gasley and the japanese Yuki Tsunoda able to fight for good points on some weekends, but well off on others.
The AT03 seemed especially well-suited to slow-speed tracks, but struggled harder on faster tracks when downforce demands increased. It has been suggested that the team will go for a different concept with its AT04 that could bring it closer to what sister team Red Bull has done.
The 2023 designs that have been revealed by other teams already hint that a number of teams will take ideas from the dominant RB18 from last year, so it would be perfectly logical for AlphaTauri to follow suit.
But the other great novelty of AlphaTauri is the arrival of the Dutchman Nyck de Vries to replace Gasly, who will ride for Alpine.
De Vries was hired by the team following his impressive Formula 1 debut at the Italian Grand Prix, when he replaced Alex Albón in williamsachieving a result of ninth place.
AlphaTauri has high hopes that De Vries, despite being a rookie, can help give the team the direction it needs to be a star.
