The only example of the TVR Cerbera Speed 12, considered the most dangerous car in the world, has just been sold at auction for €700,000.

Back in 1997, the British automobile company TVR announced as a prototype what was considered by many to be the most dangerous car of the moment. Conceived as the car that could break all performance records, hardly a single example was manufactured, which, curiously, has just been sold at auction for just over 700,000 euros.

Under the name of TVR Cerbera Speed 12, it is a model suitable for driving on the road and not a mere exercise in style to compete on the circuit. TVR was serious at the end of the 90s: it wanted to build the sportiest car of the moment.

Its production was canceled for being too wild and powerful

To do this, under a coupé body in a 2+2 configuration, a 7.7 liter V12 enginewhich TVR itself had developed for the competition.

It was essentially two straight-six Cerbera Speed Six engines joined together using a block of steel, later developed by TVR to make this 7.7-litre V12 will develop over 840 CV of powerfor a car that weighed around 1,000 kilograms.

Everything suggested that this model would become the fastest of its time and that it would dethrone current benchmarks, such as the Jaguar XJ220 or the McLaren F1. Reality, often stubborn, was there to put an end to this dream.

Peter Wheeler himself, TVR engineer and ideologue of the car, was in charge of putting an end to the madness. Wheeler is said to have taken one of the finished prototypes home for the night and upon his return declared it to be too powerful and wild for the road.

10 sports cars without a windshield: a dangerous trend?

Given this, production plans were canceled, deposits made by potential customers were returned and the remaining prototypes were scrapped as spare parts for racing cars. Except one, which is the one that has just been sold for 700,000 euros.
