BMW introduced a new variant for the XM, its sportiest SUV. This new version is the 50e, intended to be located as the entry-level of this model and that has the particularity of being a hybrid, reducing the size of its combustion engine and being presented virtually, since we know of its existence thanks to a video that the brand uploaded on YouTube.
The formula for the new BMW XM 50e consists of replacing the 4.4-liter V8 twin-turbo that mounts the XM version with a 3.0-liter six-cylinder twin-turbo engine, assisted by an electric motor to generate a total of 469 HP and 516 pound-feet of torque.
This number is lower when compared to the 644 hp and 590 lb-ft of the base XM and the 738 hp and 738 lb-ft of the range-topping XM Label Red. However, the XM 50e has enough to do 0 to 100 km/h in 5.1 seconds. The dynamism of the XM 50e is accentuated thanks to the rear-wheel steeringthe adaptive M suspension and the M differential.
According to BMW, the XM 50e can do an estimated 76 to 84 kilometers fully electric in the WLTP cycle and its hybrid technology allows an improvement in fuel economy that reaches 20% in the WLTP cycle.
In the aesthetic section, the new BMW XM 50e will feature a silver-edged M logo, gloss black accents and a black trim strip under the windowsalthough all the attention is taken by its exclusive set of 23-inch wheels.
Apparently, this hybrid version of the XM will not be marketed in North America, where the brand will only offer the V8-powered model. However, we will have to wait until the vehicle goes into production during the month of August to confirm its price and markets where it will be marketed.
