With electric cars advancing in both technology and performance, it seems that the age of muscle cars is about to die out. Big V8s burning tsunamis of fuel could have been attractive until a few years ago, but today it ends up being a luxury that is difficult to afford and increasingly difficult to be approved by government agencies.
And if we talk about using oil as if it weren’t our own and damaging the environment, we have to talk about the American lifestyle, the birthplace of muscle cars. There it is known that some models will not have a replacement, and in the case of the Dodge Charger and Challenger V8, their extinction is a matter of days.
The era of the ginormous V8 is nearing its end.
According to a statement shared by parent company Stellantis, Dodge will stop taking orders for the new Hemi V8-powered Charger and Challenger muscle cars at the end of July 2023. This means that there are only a couple of weeks left to get on the list to keep one of the vehicles that will be manufactured no later than December.
Tim Kuniskis, CEO of the Dodge brand at Stellantis, stated: “As we transition into an exciting future of electrified muscle cars, We’re marking the end of an unforgettable era for Dodge, and time is running out for those who want to own a piece. For those looking for a Dodge Challenger or Charger, especially a high horsepower model, like the Scat Pack, SRT Hellcat or a special edition model, it really is the last call.”
Charger Daytona SRT Concept shows us that the future of the model is in the hands of electricity (and that’s not bad at all).
Dodge is currently offering special editions of these models aptly named “Last Call.”, including the SRT Demon variants, with a V8 that reaches 1,025 HP. Also the brand brought back some iconic colors like B5 Blue, Plum Crazy purple and Sublime green.
This will be the end of the V8-powered Charger and Challenger, but the name will continue into the future with electric, as Dodge previewed an upcoming electric vehicle with its Charger Daytona SRT Concept. with retro design details and interesting power figures, ranging from the basic 455 HP version to the models SRT Banshee with over 800 HP and all-wheel drive.
