It is an irrefutable fact that Esteban Ocon has finished ahead of Fernando Alonso in the Formula 1 classification. 92 points for the Frenchman and 81 for the Spanish driver. But despite those results, the debate over who has been the best at Alpine is still very much alive.
Ocon finished ahead in the race three times more than Alonso. In the classifications, the Asturian has won (twelve to ten).
The best result of the season has been for Ocon (fourth). Alonso’s best position was fifth. Far away from those results. the victory that Alpine achieved in Hungary in 2021. Alonso got on the podium in Qatar.
Some results that show that no matter how much faster their car was, reliability has condemned them to have worse results. Something that above all angered Alonso, the most affected.
You can see it in the dropout data. Six from Alonso for only two from Ocon. “It’s always car number 14…”denounced the two-time champion on several occasions after suffering mechanical problems.
Alonso was fed up and decided to start a new project. The Aston Martin. A truly exciting project in which the first stones have already been laid to achieve important results in F1.
