Fernando Alonso sometimes seems more a machine than a human being. Yes, because of what he does on the track. Because he looks like a metronome. Because in every lap he nails the time. For that, and also because he has everything in his head. His position, that of his rivals, how is his partner… and also even math. Even the numbers. Even the points that both he and Aston Martin have and those that the others have.
That is why he is so happy about what happened this Saturday in Austria. In a sprint in which he finished fifth with Lance Stroll, his teammate, in fourth place. Juicy sum, more than that of his rivals.
“Three points more than Ferrari, eight more than Mercedes… Yes, good Saturday,” he says.
And already points to the race: “If we add more points than Ferrari and Mercedes will be another good Sunday”.
“It’s going to be a tough race. In the dry… and Ferrari goes very fast”, insists.
“In these conditions…”
Because it was a difficult sprint: “At the end, a top 5. It’s what we had in these conditions. You had to improvise on the grill.”
“The decision to ride dry… We stuck with intermediates, and you never know”, judgment.
So, Alonso already knows what has to happen, numerically speaking, in the long race in Austria to leave the Red Bull Ring happy, and to face who knows if as the second team of the World Cup of builders the appointment of Silverstone.
