Years go by and the Ferrari 250 GTO does not stop attracting attention. One of the most iconic models of the Italian house, and which is the most expensive car sold in history, in recent times it has been chosen by various artists to be represented in one way or another.
Hand in hand with works made on different scales, whether in gold, marble, or even wood, the 250 GTO continues to stand out in the world of irons. And that we are talking about a model that is almost 60 years old, having been launched in 1962.
On this occasion, we present to you what was done by an Asian craftsman, who decided to create his 1/5 scale 250 GTO practically from scratch, using well-familiar techniques to those of the construction of the mythical Italian sports car, and whose result is astonishing.
Ferrari 250 GTO in 1/5: This is how it was done
The artist who made this Ferrari 250 GTO calls himself Liu Mutou, he is a native of Hong Kong and he describes himself as a person who loves cars and who also loves to build them by hand, using different materials to make any type of vehicle.
The construction began with the chassis, for which he used a spar and a set of suspensions already assembled. Later, he developed the tubular structure, just as the original 250 GTO had, welding every one of the countless joints made.
After a first test of movement and the incorporation of the exhausts, he started the manufacture of the body, which he carried out using metal, which he drew, hammered, cut and welded, among several other actions. The reality is that the precision of each of the movements is amazing, and how the scale car is taking shape. The process culminates in painting the body in classic Ferrari “Rosso Corsa” and incorporating all the exterior details (even the bonnet hinges!).
Mutou admitted that it was his first time building a metal Ferrari. Beyond how beautiful the final result looks, the craftsman admitted that It was a job in which he encountered many problems, and failed in several attempts. Fortunately for us, she did not give up and was able to do his job.
In addition to the excellent work done on both the chassis and the bodywork, It is interesting to note that the 250 GTO in 1/5 scale is not static, since it has an electric motor and all its relevant cable system to be managed with remote control. Even the exhausts emit smoke!
Total, It took the craftsman 48 days to build the exterior of the 250 GTO. And the inside? Well, it is clear that it has not been done, but the good thing is that the creator also takes it into account: The interior and the wheels are not finished yet, he admitted, so we will have to be patient and wait, since he assured that when the model is finished will disclose it through YouTube.
