In October 2022, Ford announced the end of production of the Fiesta, iconic model of the brand with more than 40 years of life, and which for some years now had been declining its global presence. Before that announcement, we mistakenly celebrated the last facelift of the current generation: the Fiesta was not “more live than never”.
At Ford they pointed out that the closure of the hatchback manufacturing was going to happen in the European summer (the only continent where it continues to be done) of this 2023. Well, it turns out that, in the last hours, The British media Autocar reported that the Fiesta will cease to be manufactured next Friday 07/07with two units that will remain in possession of the brand.
In this way, the plant in Cologne, Germany, will follow the steps taken in Brazil in 2019, when the production of the Fiesta in South America ended (and therefore its marketing on this side of the world) thanks to the closure of the Ford plant in Sao Bernardo do Campo, and in Mexico in 2020, when it was replaced on the production lines of the Cuautitlán factory by the Mustang Mach-E.

As reported by Ford in 2022, the Fiesta will say goodbye to free up space at the Cologne factory, which is undergoing renovations to start producing battery-powered modelsthe first being the Explorer EV, an SUV unveiled by the brand last March.
On the other hand, the Fiesta, which was extremely popular in Europe (best-selling model in the UK for 11 consecutive years), lost ground in the market, being another “victim” of the global advance of SUVs, to the detriment of hatchbacks and sedans, to which is added the ecological course that the automotive industry is adopting.
Although at the time it was rumored with the possibility of the appearance of an electric successor to the hatchback, to be made on the platform of the Explorer EV (the MEB, from Volkswagen), the truth is that there was never more information about it, neither unofficial nor from Ford itself.
On Friday a story that lasted for 47 years will close. Produced since 1976the Fiesta is one of the best-selling Ford models in history, having sold 18 million units, no less.
