Throughout time, women have been a fundamental part of Ford, which is why 23 years ago, Ford of Mexico set the standard by having the first female president in the industry, and today, it has the leadership of the third in history.
The growth of female participation in the company has been particularly reflected in leadership positions; in the last year, there has been a 7% growth in management positions, while today 38% of the Board of Directors is represented by women.
Of the total number of women currently working at Ford de México, andl 58.17% is in the production lines, representing 25% of the manufacturing area.
Luz Elena de Castillo, president and CEO of Ford of Mexico, Puerto Rico, Central America and the Caribbean, assures that they work “so that more and more women occupy leadership positions in the company and that does not mean that they have to sacrifice their personal ideals.”
Ford de México is very clear that the needs of women change and therefore has various programs such as:
- Egg freezing: For insured persons between the ages of 25 and 35, this coverage by the Medical Expenses Insurance is for both female collaborators and the employees’ spouses.
- Maternity permission: benefit that can go up to 6 months, in addition to the time granted by law and with the guarantee of returning with the same working conditions,
- Flexible work schemes: schemes with which it is sought to provide tools so that each person determines how and when to do their work thanks to part-time shifts or shared positions in which two employees share the responsibilities of a full-time position
- Financial support for daycare programs: support in which the company grants monetary aid on a semi-annual basis to employees who have children in daycare
- Lactation rooms and extended period of lactation: providing a suitable site with all necessary facilities in any of the locations.
Continuing with the objective of promoting the growth of its collaborators and hand in hand with the impetus to go further, this year, Ford announced the pilot of a professional development program whose objective is early progress to promote women leaders, achieving it through the practice of management skills in real time, discussion forums on the challenges of women in the workplace and support between employees in general to create an equitable work environment.
