The fifth generation of the Toyota Prius surprised us with its new, much more fluid, futuristic and sporty design.. Even rendering geniuses like X-Tomi Design have already made their first experiments with the model, imagining it as it would look with the Gazoo Racing treatment.
And it seems that the idea is not so far from reality, at least it is what is proposed by the colleagues of Best Car in Japan, where the rumor that Toyota would be working on a high performance version of the Prius PHEV, which could be released towards the end of this year or the beginning of next.
This rumor does not seem impossible to us, mainly because the Prius is manufactured on the same TNGA-C modular platform that gives life to the Toyota Corolla, which has already passed through the hands of Gazoo Racing. The Prius PHEV combines a two-liter Dynamic Force four-cylinder engine, an electric motor and lithium-ion batteries to deliver a combined output of 220 HP (164 kW) and a 0-60 time of 6.7 seconds. According to Toyota, this variant increases its range of use by 50% in 100% electric mode.

The most logical idea, proposed by various means, is use the powertrain of the RAV4 PHEV, which has a 2.5-liter engine and three electric motors, which would transform the Prius into a car with close to 300 Hp and AWD drive. The other option would be to change the 2.0 engine for the 2.4 Turbo of the new Toyota Crown, also with PHEV technology, and even try the 1.6 Turbo of the GR Yaris and GR Corolla as a generator.
Nevertheless, We know that this car will not be a GR Sport package, so there will also be major modifications, including structural reinforcements in the body, a sports suspension and some interior details that correspond to its performance, including seats or a sports steering wheel.
The GRMN package that the GR Yaris carries is fearsome, so maybe Toyota is encouraged with an optional roll barcarbon fiber parts and perhaps some LSD differential involved.
