Lhe arrival of Fernando Alonso has meant a before and after for Aston Martin. That’s how he considers it Lawrence Stroll, team owner. The Canadian businessman assures that the Asturian has radically changed the way the team works, since he has managed to infect each worker with his winning mentality.
Precisely the Asturian’s winning character was the key factor for Aston Martin to sign him in August 2022. “When I spoke to him, he said: ‘Listen, I can bring something to this team in my later years.. I’m going to drive and hopefully have some sort of role within Aston Martin for many years to come when I stop driving.’ When he said that, I didn’t need much to be convinced”, explained Lawrence Stroll in statements collected by the ‘New York Times’.
This motivation has been key for the Asturian pilot to remain, at the age of 42, at his best level: “The conditioning in which he has maintained himself physically and mentally and their motivation levels are higher than ever. He is absolutely determined to win. The guy is just a big ball of motivation. He’s picking everyone up, saying ‘Come on, let’s win‘”.
The Aston Martin owner confirms that Alonso was not sure that the car would be competitive, as the Oviedo native recently explained: “When we signed that agreement last year at the beginning of August, Fernando did not know that the car was going to be as fast as it is”.
However, Lawrence Stroll’s determination to build a winning team prompted him to switch from Alpine blue to Aston Martin green. “But he knew all the passion I’ve put into it, the great people I’ve hired, the great facilities he was building, and wanted to be a part of it. He believed,” Stroll said.
The Canadian businessman has confirmed that the new factory of the team at Silverstone will be released in the coming monthsand the wind tunnel, in 2024, which will allow the team to take another step on its path to success. Without a doubt, Aston Martin has a good base to become a winning team.
