Esteban Ocon faces the 2023 season in Formula 1 with a new teammate, his compatriot Pierre Gasley. However, he continues to highlight his performance last year against Fernando Alonso. Now, to affirm that he was the main reason for the advances of Alpine.
The Frenchman had a good season last year. He finished eighth in the World Cup, ahead of Alonso by eleven points. And the sum of both allowed the Enstone team to finish fourth in the Constructors’ World Championship, beating McLaren in the final part.
And, for Ocon, these results are due to him. As he explained in a chat with ‘GPFans’, his guidelines were the ones that guided the development of the car: “I had the opportunity to guide the team in the right direction from the beginning to make improvements and it worked”.
Of course, the French driver acknowledged that it was not easy to drive the Alpine during the season: “It is not easy, it took a long time. It wasn’t a fun car to drive. And it was hard for everyone.”
“But even if we were not at 100% with the configuration, we were still performing in the top 10 and that was good,” he added to finish.
