The 2019 Belgian GP It was one of the most tragic tests of all those that have taken place in the motor world. In the Formula 2 race, an accident involving Juliano Alessi, Juan Manuel Correa and Anthoine Hubert ended the life of the French pilot.
Correa, an Ecuadorian-born American, couldn’t help in the middle of the ascent to Eau Rouge the Gaul, and impacted with him more than 200 kilometers per hour. Now, in a podcast called ‘Is this it?’, Presented by Dana Grinberga, she has revealed that the Police made her sign a “involuntary manslaughter” document.
It was while I was in the hospital, the morning after an accident in the one who was close to losing his legs.
“That’s when I realized that there was someone else affected”
“At six in the morning the Belgian Police came to my hospital room. They made me sign a kind of document called ‘involuntary manslaughter’. Crazy”, says.
And then he was asked if he technically killed Hubert: “Yes, technically. But I didn’t even know anyone was killed. I didn’t know what they were talking about. Belgium law says you have to sign that to know there was an ongoing investigation. That’s what they told me.”
“That’s when I realized that someone else was affected. That he was Anthoine, and that he died. My injuries no longer mattered to me. I was devastated,” he says.
Juan Manuel Correa competed again in 2021, in F3. Now, the pilot competes in F2, in the ranks of Van Amersfoort Racing.
