There are many special cars in the history of Porsche, but few that reach the level of the Porsche 356. We are talking about the first production vehicle that the German firm made in series, a sports car that laid the foundations of sportsmanship and that was really important for its development. It is precisely now that it is celebrating 75 years of its launch, so a celebration to match was mandatory. And they have achieved it with the Porsche Vision 357, which is a prototype that serves as a reinterpretation of said model in a modern key.
In the brand they have tried to project what the sports car that Ferry Porsche would have dreamed of in the case of being in current times. To give it life they have taken one of their most powerful bases, that of the 718 Cayman GT4 RS. It is what makes the most sense due to its dimensions and character, since the Porsche 911 probably would not have fit so much into the project. Of course, the design has nothing to do, because its bodywork has been completely redesigned drawing inspiration from the lines of the 356.
That is why the Porsche Vision 357 has very fluid and sculpted lines, as well as many nods to the original model. Glazed surfaces take on prominence through a strikingly curved windshield and darkened A-pillars, in addition to round headlamps fully integrated into the bodywork. The two tone gray paint (Ice Gray Metallic Y Grivola Gray Metallic) are inspired by the decade of the 50s and could not miss some graphics that accredit the celebration of the 75th anniversary.
One of the aspects that most attracts attention in the prototype are the wheels of 20 inch wheels. They are made of magnesium to save weight and have carbon fiber hubcaps for aerodynamic benefits. Aesthetically it is reminiscent of those of the 356 A and 356 B, which had their drum brakes sticking out. Also surprising is the lack of joints on the hood, the bulging wheel arches, which got rid of mirrors (there are cameras in the roof instead) or the blue-looking titanium exhaust outlet.
The truth is that no images of the interior of this Porsche Vision 357 have been shown, but you can expect a sporty and minimalist atmosphere. Where there have been no changes compared to the donor model is in the mechanics. The atmospheric 4.0-litre six-cylinder boxer centrally located, which is linked to a seven-speed dual-clutch PDK automatic transmission.
Get a power of 500 hp and 450 Nm of torque and, although its benefits have not been confirmed, we can expect times similar to the acceleration of 0 to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds and the top speed of 315 km/h that the 718 Cayman GT4 RS manages to do.
