When it came out in 2020, the Polestar 2 It boasted of being one of the most advanced electric sedans of the moment. A more rational (and affordable) model than the Polestar 1, with which they aimed to stand up to other rivals in the D segment. However, these days it is increasingly difficult to keep a car unchanged due to the unstoppable advance of technology and the arrival of new vehicles. That is why they present a facelift for this model, which affects mainly to its mechanical rangeoffering new electric motors and more powerful batteries.
At the design level, the truth is that it is difficult to distinguish the new Polestar 2 from the one that was sold until now. The highlight is the use of the SmartZone, which is the device that includes a front camera and medium-range radar on the front to add a good number of active security systems. In this way, its grille is resolved in a similar way as in the Polestar 3. In the same way, some newly designed 20-inch forged wheels to units that mount the Performance package.
Although, as we said, the most interesting thing about Polestar 2 is in its bowels. Added to the range new electric motors permanent magnets and silicon carbide inverter. Now they reach up to 300 hp or 220 kW of power (previously 170 kW), while the torque rises to 490 Nm (160 Nm more). That’s going to make improve performance of all versions. There are options of a rear-wheel drive engine and also with two engines to get all-wheel drive.
In fact, in the new Polestar 2 the total increase in power goes up to 421 hp or 310 kW and 740 Nm (previously 300 kW and 660 Nm). Even with the Performance package, 350 kW (476 hp) is achieved and an acceleration of 4.2 seconds is achieved, although that is only possible with the Long Range Dual Motor. Because it must be said that there is two battery options for this copy. The Standard Range is the one with a 69 kWh battery manufactured by LG Chem, while the Long Range mounts the 83 kWh battery from CATL.
The first accepts charging speeds of 135 kW and the largest can be charged at 205 kW in direct current. All of them have experienced an increase in their autonomy, ranging from 518 kilometers in access up to 635 kilometers of the Long Range Single Engine. Despite having larger batteries and more powerful motors, the Polestar 2 is also more efficient because production carbon emissions have been greatly reduced.
