The future of Carlos Sainz goes through Ferrari. At least, that is the desire of the Madrid driver, who wanted to settle the rumors about a possible departure from the Maranello team in the run-up to the Hungarian Grand Prix.
After a 2022 in which he could not stand up to Charles Leclerc, Sainz has beaten his teammate in the first half of the 2023 seasonpresenting his candidacy to lead the team and clearing up a good part of the doubts that existed in Maranello last winter.
“I honestly feel that I am at the ideal moment in my career to be a Ferrari driverbecause I feel like it”, Carlos Sainz assured in a statement to ‘Mundo Deportivo’.
The Spaniard assures that the criticism he received last season has not affected him: “They could be exhausting, but not me. If you’re not 100% as I am, or you’re at the beginning or end of your career, they could exhaust you. I’m not going to deny it. But I’m so 100% and so happy to be at Ferrari that the noise doesn’t exhaust me or affect me because I don’t let it do it.”
The ’55’ assures that, after two and a half years, he is fully acclimatized to Ferrari, where he wants to continue racing beyond 2024, when his contract expires: “My priority, of course, is to continue at Ferrari. I don’t see any better place in F1 right now than a team like Ferrariwho has the ambition to win again”.
“I want to win another race as soon as possible and, if possible, fight for a World Cup. And since we both share a goal, if that team is Ferrari, well, I don’t see why not continue,” he said.
Sainz rushes Ferrari
However, Sainz asks the ‘Prancing Horse’ team to clarify his future as soon as possible: “I have said it many times: I always like to go into the last season of my contract knowing where I am going to race the following year. And that will be my very intention this year.”
Therefore, it sets a deadline to start negotiations. “I’m not worried. Yes, I have set a date, the winter of this year, to try to find out what will become of mebut I will think about it more at the end of the season, what it would be worth to me and not to be here and what I can continue to offer Ferrari… I am simply very focused on the season”, explained Carlos Sainz.
