Red Bull has been sanctioned for exceeding the budget ceiling. Despite the continuous attempts of the Austrian team to ensure that they did not obtain any benefit from the infraction, the FIA has ended up imposing sanctions economic and sports
One of the measures imposed is the reduction of the use of wind tunnelsomething that for a team that bases its superiority on aerodynamics, is a serious blow.
“The penalty has been heavily demanded by our rivals. It may be very high, but it won’t be enough for you,” Horner blamed the other teams as he added: “Not even if if we burned down our wind tunnel they would catch up with us“.
Red Bull has been sanctioned with a 10% reduction of the aerodynamic tests for 2023 and, in addition, you will have to pay a seven million euro fine. “We have lost 10% of our aerodynamic capacity, but we have gained 25% of motivation”, assured the team manager.
That 10% adds another 5% that is imposed, according to the regulations, to the winning team of the Constructors’ World Championship, therefore, Red Bull will have a 15% reduction: “All this will affect us next year.”
It can cost them up to half a second per lap
Red Bull is a team that works very well on aerodynamics, so much so that its superiority usually depends on it. Now, with this new sanction, which has a duration of 12 months, you can be affected both his car from 2023 such as 2024.
“It’s a 10% reduction in wind tunnel hours and our aerodynamic development tools. That’s huge. It can cost us half a second per lap and it will affect the development of our car”, Horner has settled.
