Registrations April 2023 | Analysis. best selling cars

April has been the fourth month of the year and the fourth in which an increase in new car registrations has been recorded. specifically sold 74,749 units8.2% more than in April 2022. In the accumulated figure for the year, the improvement is even more notable, since 312,314 registrations have been reached, an improvement of 33.7% compared to the previous year.

These are still figures that are far from those registered by the Spanish market before the pandemic, since without going back to 2019 we see that they are still 28.4% below. And, despite the fact that Easter this year has coincided in April, it is a favorable month to overcome the psychological barrier of 100,000 units. Looking at it positively, one can see that the pace of vehicle production and delivery is already improving.

Regarding registrations by channel, sales to companies were already the main sales channel, with 30,615 units, 8.9% more than in 2022. Sales to rent a car also improved, specifically 30.6%, up to 15,753 units. For its part, sales to individuals fell by 1.9% compared to last year, with a total of 28,381 registrations.

For their part, registrations of light commercial vehicles totaled 10,635 units in the fourth month, which represents a growth of 12.9% compared to last year. In the first quarter of this year, the market improved by 25.8%, reaching 44,796 units.

Manufacturers celebrate the fourth month of increased registrations, but are concerned about the low sales to individuals, with enormous doubts about which car to buy. “Spain, as the second European vehicle producer, must bet on a sustainable mobility model that includes the private vehicle as part of the solution and not the problem of decarbonization,” they indicate from Anfac. Dealers point out that before the pandemic and as summer approached, the market easily exceeded 100,000 registered units. Now, the growth is due “to an improvement in the supply of vehicles and also to operations from the end of 2022.”

From Ganvam, the vendors’ association, they point out that there has been one business day less to sell than in April of last year and “this circumstance has contributed to the slowdown in registrations that has been noted, especially in the private channel ». The behavior of this second quarter will be key to determining the progressive return to normality.
