Industry associations in brands are becoming more common, which is beginning to make it common for the same model to be launched on the market with different masks under different names.

One of the strongest associations is the one that unites subaru with toyota, which has given life to models such as the BRZ/GT86 coupe. And now, the star brand adds a new product to its range in Japan: the Rex.

The Subaru Rex is essentially a toyota raize renamed, and which is also sold as daihatsu rocky. Subaru has used the name ‘Rex’ in the past for a number of kei cars sold in various markets.

The Rex is very much like a Rocky inside and out. The only visible changes are the use of the Subaru Pleiades logo and a slightly modified grille. With the Raize there are major visual differences, although the essence of the car is the same.

Three bodies, one model: Toyota Raize, Daihatsu Rocky and Subaru Rex.

With front-wheel drive and CVT transmission, the Subaru Rex is powered by a 1.2-liter three-cylinder gasoline engine, rated at 87 Hp at 6,000 rpm and 83 lb-ft of torque at 4,500 rpm.

The Rex includes 16-inch or 17-inch wheels, LED headlights, fog lights, manual or electronic parking brake, urethane or leather-wrapped steering wheel, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, 9-inch touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay , among others.

Safety and driver assistance systems are part of the Smart Assist suite, with subaru opting not to use his own EyeSight brand. Features include a Blind Spot Monitor, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Traffic Sign Recognition, High Beam Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keep Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Road Departure Warning, and Alert rear cross-traffic, with a panoramic view monitor and park assist as an option.
