The BMW M3 Touring It is the compact family car with a sporty cut that many have been asking for for decades. It puts an end to that hegemony that the most traditional M had in saloon and coupé format (SUVs are a separate story) in a masterful way, combining performance and practicality in equal parts. It is the icing on the cake to this series of celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the sports division and hits the market in January 2023 for €122,125. Compared to an M3 Competition saloon, it means paying 1,500 euros more.
Although family bodies have given way to SUVs in popularity, they are still appreciated by a part of the public. It is not surprising for its many qualities and also for being able to achieve a design as attractive as that of this M3 Touring. It has very marked and sporty shapes, with that front that raised so much controversy and that has been gaining integers over time. The kidney grill in vertical arrangement It is accompanied by large air intakes and glossy black aerodynamic elements.
However, what really captivates in this vehicle is its side. It is chaired by the 19-inch front and 20-inch rear forged wheels or by the hidden roof bars, while completely modifying its rear overhang to take on that familiar silhouette. The rear gains muscle with a roof spoiler with Gurney profileswith those recognizable pilots of the M3 saloon in the intermediate part and with a remarkable diffuser that integrates the four circular exhaust outlets.
The truth is that the interior is less novelty in the BMW M3 Touring. After all, it is the same scheme as in the rest of the compact family, with a mixture of sportiness and advanced technology. the new screen BMW Curved Display It is the protagonist of this last point by combining the 12.3-inch digital instrumentation and a 14.9-inch central touch screen on the same plane. She has the brand’s latest multimedia system and stands out for introducing new specific menus M both on the screens and on the optional Head-Up Display.
Sportsmanship comes hand in hand with M Sport seats which come standard with heating, electric adjustments and notable Merino leather upholstery. Optionally, carbon fiber ones can be mounted to save up to 9.6 kg in weight and gain in design. And also, it offers quite usable rear seats and a trunk that reaches 500 liters capacity. It has an electric opening gate and the seats can be folded down in three parts (40:20:40) to leave a flat surface with a maximum of up to 1,510 liters.
In the mechanical section, we are pleased to see that the inline six-cylinder engine with M Twin Power Turbo technology and 3.0-liter displacement, located under the hood. keeps those 510 hp and 650 Nm of torque, always linked to the eight-speed M Steptronic automatic transmission with Drivelogic and M xDrive all-wheel drive (which includes active M rear differential). It is the right thing to do to achieve benefits once reserved for supercars. This specimen accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.6 secondsgoes from 0 to 200 km/h in 12.9 seconds and has a top speed of 280 km/h if you opt for the M Driver’s Package (250 km/h without it).
The positive part is that in the dynamic section, the driver will be able to choose between quite a few parameters. For example, drive can be upgraded from 4WD to a more forgiving 4WD Sport and even 2WD to make the BMW M3 Touring pure rear-drive. The chassis receives a specific tuning to achieve an agile, dynamic and precise behavior; at the same time that it does not forget the driving comfort that any family vehicle should have.
To achieve this performance, it uses the adaptive suspension M with electronically controlled dampers and M Servotronic steering, both of which come as standard on the estate. What is optional and could be interesting for those thinking about the circuit are the M carbon ceramic brakes. In any case, it will be necessary to see it live and testing to draw more conclusions. We will also have to wait to find out its price when it arrives in our country.
