“I wouldn’t say we met when I was 12 years old. I was just a fanboy back then“: so remember Lance Stroll in an interview on ‘Speedweek’ the moment he first met Fernando Alonso during a weekend Formula 1.
The Canadian distills and realizes the admiration he processes towards the two-time world champion both on and off the asphalt, as reflected by himself on the radio at the last Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
The objective, unlike what happened with Esteban Ocon in Alpine (he was looking to stay above Alonso rather than add together for the team), is to lead Aston Martin to the top of the grid.
“There is a great dynamic in the team at the moment and I enjoy working alongside him. He is incredibly talented, knows a lot and has a lot of experience.. And he wants to do his best every day,” she said.
For Stroll, sharing a garage with Fernando is a constant learning: “I have a lot of respect for him because he has been doing it for a long time. It has been offering its best level for more than 20 years. I have great respect for his determination, focus and motivation, which he shows every day.”
“We both tried to improve the car and its set-up and this dynamic has been very good so far”, the young driver concluded.
