The draft that modifies the General Traffic Regulations has already been presented by the DGT to modernize and include new road signs. These are.

The traffic signs that you see every day when you take the car, public transport and even if you walk are no less than 18 years old! For this reason, the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT), as part of its Road Safety strategy, which mainly seeks a sharp drop in accident rates, also wants modernize some signs that are on their way to completing two decades of life. They will do so in accordance, on the one hand, with the new growing mobility and, on the other, with current trends.

At the moment, the Royal Decree that modifies the General Traffic Regulations still in draft phase although the objective of the Traffic Executive is to have them ready by mid-2023. Among some of the most representative changes are, for example, the stop sign update, with a clearer typeface that is easier for drivers to see. Another one that is updated is the one related to school zones that, following the egalitarian trend, adds a female figure, like the P-20a sign that indicates a nearby pedestrian crossing, offers better legibility.

This will be the new indication for areas with fog, rain, snow...

Others have changed their design but keep their meaning. This is the case of the P-33 or P-8 which indicate, respectively, a section with a strong concentration of fog, rain, snow, smoke or a level crossing without barriers. The first now offers the image of a car entering a curtain of fog while in the second, the traditional train with smoke has been replaced by a more modern one with a front view.

Among the vertical indications that will be released With this new Regulation, those that refer to wild animals in the wild (P-24a) close to urban areas in which the silhouette of a wild boar stands out. If we focus on the new mobility, it is worth noting the appearance of the R-118 sign represented by an electric scooter to indicate the prohibition of passage of this type of vehicle. To it is added the R-422, in blue and with a person next to a bike that forces users who pass through said area to get off the bikes and continue on foot.

Mobility objects will have restricted access to certain places.  This is the signal that indicates it.

More novelties, although in this case you will have already seen the R-120 indicative represented by a car emitting smoke in the access to some cities, which will prohibit access to certain places for the most polluting vehicles. Already on the road you will see two unprecedented signs such as the S-1c that indicates the beginning of a 2+1 highway, that is, one that consists of three traffic lanes and allows circulation in both directions; or the P-35 that alerts about the danger due to the proximity of a section between a confluence and a fork where different lane change movements take place. Also, there will be many signals that will stop being active. For example, the signs R-308a, R-308b and R-309 that indicate the prohibition of parking on odd, even and limited use days.
