The Spanish oil company will give its customers 30 cents per liter of used cooking oil that they deliver to the 150 service stations set up in the Community of Madrid. All this recycled oil will go to the production of synthetic fuels.
That the European administrations want to electrify everything that can be electrified is not surprising, but now we also know (thanks in large part to Germany) that they will not be able to load the combustion engine. The secret of his survival? Synthetic fuels, which allow the carbon neutrality without saying goodbye to short refueling and long ranges. Broadly speaking, the key lies in the fact that the CO2 that is captured from the air for its production offsets its emissions, so that its use would not increase pollution. As we told you in the demonstration that Marc Márquez did not do in El Jarama at the end of last year, Repsol is immersed in a very important research and development project related to synthetic fuels, and an unbeatable example of this involvement is the initiative that they have just to launch in the Community of Madrid.
As the company itself has announced, for every liter of used cooking oil that its customers deliver to authorized points in the Spanish capital, the user will benefit from a discount of up to 30 cents on refuelingeither diesel or gasoline. Initially, there will be 134 service stations linked to this campaign, but in the coming weeks the number will increase to 150 service stations. All of them, yes, will be located in the Community of Madrid; It is unknown if in the future the offer will be transferred to other parts of the national territory.
The future does not only pass through electrification
What we do know for sure is that all this recycled oil that Repsol customers contribute will go to synthetic fuel production and, therefore, to the future of thermal mechanics.
How to deliver used oil to Repsol
The delivery method accepted by the oil company will be the use of plastic bottles filled with at least a liter of used cooking oil. Once the process is finished, the 30 cents discount will be applied automatically for the next refueling through the Waylet mobile application.
