The issue of supercars, the stratospheric performance figures they generate and, of course, the price. This brings us to a basic question: How much do you have to spend to have a “worthy” car in terms of performance? There will be those who can or cannot do it, or “spend” it on a whim.
This is the case of Peter Freedman, owner and founder of the prestigious Rode microphones, who decided to do something “special” with his Toyota GR Yaris. For this purpose, he turned to the guys from Powertune in Australia who lately have done quite interesting things like extracting power from “normal” cars to overcome some supercars, like McLaren, for example. This is not an easy task, it requires technique and experience (we don’t even talk about tools); especially when the base is the 1.6-liter three-cylinder engine that was about to say goodbye to its healthy 261 Hp from the factory.
The list of high performance components is top notch. Brands that have a good track record in competition and high performance:
- Garrett G30-770 Turbocharger
- custom exhaust manifold
- Akrapovic exhaust system
- new intercooler
- X-Shift sequential box coupled to standard all-wheel drive
- Motec ECU

With all this arsenal available, Powertune gradually worked on tuning the Yaris. Of course, the help of the dynamometer was essential to find both the optimal performance and the final power figure, after all, how do you tell a computer that the same car has tripled its power?
And it is that in the end, this Toyota Yaris GR has managed to develop 751 Hp cutting almost up to 8,100 rpm, that is, almost 500 Hp more! And if we add to that that he only weighs 1,280 kilos, I’m sure that the good Peter Freedman is going to have some heart-stopping fun. More of these projects, please.
