Verstappen defends his father’s reaction to Sergio Pérez’s victory

An image on the podium in Saudi Arabia was one of the most viral in Formula 1: Jos Verstappen, Max’s father, with a very serious face while Sergio Perez celebrated his victory at the Jeddah Grand Prix with the Red Bull mechanics. Now his son has defended him two weeks later.

Over the weekend in Australia, Max has said that his father just “didn’t belong there” and that is why he did not celebrate the victory of the Mexican. In addition, he has accused social networks of “always showing the wrong images”.

“They always show the wrong pictures. Checo gets out of his car and wants to celebrate with his mechanics, which is quite normal. And my dad just doesn’t belong there, that’s why he doesn’t jump there like an idiot,” says the two-time F1 champion.

And insists: “I think that’s normalIt’s just that some people see it differently. That’s okay, so you just don’t see it that way. The point is that we care about ourselves and not what the Twitter world thinks about it.”

He defends his father who, like him, “doesn’t want to lose”: “My father, of course, is always my biggest fan. I don’t like to lose and neither does my father, that’s how we grew up.”

It is more than clear that the Verstappen do not tolerate defeat. Max said after Yeda that he was not in Red Bull “to be second”, making it clear that his main objective at the moment is to defeat his partner. Sparks may fly in the team if this continues.
