Alpine does not stop promising things. But he hasn’t fulfilled any of them yet. His car has not been competitive in the first three Grands Prix of the year. Besides, Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly they ended up against the wall at the Albert Park comeback in an accident between them.
But Alpine doesn’t care about all that. They remain optimistic. Above all Otmar Szafnauer, the head of the French team. “We have prepared a great package of improvements for the race in Azerbaijan,” he has advanced.
“If our progress is as great as we think, we can even compete with Mercedes in Baku. But we must clarify that we know about ourselves, but we don’t know what Mercedes and the other teams will do. What I do know is that our further development is more intensive than last year, and that should pay off on track.”
The Alpine boss hopes that these improvements will bring them closer to the best: “We don’t want our development to stop.”
“Last year we already saw that what works well in our wind tunnel also worked very well in the car. Based on that, the rest of the season looks pretty good for us,” Szafnauer said.
Alpine is the sixth team in the constructors’ standings. Only 8 points between its two pilots. One more than Haas and two more than Alfa Romeo. A very poor result for a team that never stops promising results.
