Several milestones related to new car sales have occurred in June, but when it comes to best-selling models, life goes on the same. This is the Spanish market in these first six months of life.
Thus, without realizing it, half of 2023 has just said goodbye to us and for another month new car sales data comes to the fore with a trend that maintains positivity. And it is that June has been the first month of this year in which 100,000 registrations have been exceeded, specifically there have been 101,085, which has meant an increase of 13.3% compared to the previous year. Thanks to this rush, the general market in the first semester exceeds half a million sales to reach 505,421 units, 24% more compared to the same period in 2022. With these data and if the trend continued, we would end the year in the region of one million units. A very encouraging figure that, however, has to continue to be seen with perspective since at this point in 2019 there had been 27% more registrations than at present.
The month of June has reported growth in all channels. The one that has done it the most has been, due to the summer dates and the orders from the rental companies, the rent-a-car with 48.8%, reaching 24,699 units. Similarly, sales directed to both individuals and companies registered a good performance, with increases of 8.5% and 1.9%, respectively, with a total of 38,576 units for individuals and 37,810 for companies. In any case, it should be noted that during the first half of the year the private channel was still 31% lower than it was in 2019, before the pandemic.

The Japanese firm brings everything together to be the leader again at the end of the year.
As usual, SUVs continue to be the silhouette that brings together the most sales in our market with almost 55% of total sales, with the compact category taking the cake with 30% of the total in June and 31.1% accumulated, reaching 157,144 units in the latter case totals. The B-SUVs are around a 22% share already with 109,717 accumulated units, while the utilities continue to be the third alternative with a 17.2% share and almost 87,153 sales.
By brands there is no doubt either and Toyota continues to accumulate ballots to once again be the best-selling car brand in Spain. This was the case again in June with 7,212 units, surpassing Volkswagen, second with 6,987 sales, and Kia, third with 6,819 registrations. This allows the Japanese to increase the distance in the accumulated where it has already achieved 41,336 units compared to the 35,580 of Peugeot, which remains second despite having been fifth in the month. The third drawer of the podium is now closed by Kia with 34,880 sales.
On the other hand, although it is an outstanding leader in the hybrid segment and manages to place 2 models among the 10 best sellers on the market, are again the Dacia Sandero and the Seat Arona those who are placed higher. The Romanian is once again the most demanded vehicle in our country in June and, thanks to the almost 2,838 units that have been sold this month, it has already added 14,147 units and widens the gap with the Spanish SUV, which in June was third with 2,381 units. to add a total of 14,078 units. In third place remains the Toyota C-HR of which its new generation has just been presented, with 10,748 registrations, also being the most commercialized hybrid in Spain. The rest of the models that close the top 10 are: Peugeot 2008 (10,727 units), Fiat 500 (10,019), Opel Corsa (9,890), Toyota Corolla (9,658), Hyundai Tucson (9,650), Kia Sportage (9,624) and Seat Ibiza (9,596).
The electric ones continue to grow

For the first time, more electrics have been sold than phev
Regarding technologies, the hybrids, whether self-recharging or light, continue to be the ones that pull the bandwagon in terms of electrification it refers to representing more than 30% of total registrations, accumulating 153,743 units. As we said, Toyota is largely to blame as it manages to place five models among the 10 best sellers, the aforementioned C-HR being the leader, followed by the Corolla, second and Yaris Cross, fourth. However, another month they return to be the The electrical ones that generate the greatest growth and in May rose 87.1% compared to June 2022 with 6,648 units. A piece of information that is still scarce since the market share is only 5.58% in the last 30 days, but it must be noted that it is the first time that they have surpassed the phev. It has been for 128 units but it shows the change in trend that we are experiencing. All in all, electric sales accumulate 29,773 units, 77.8% more than what was sold in 2022 at this point, with a 5.01% market share.
As for the phev, they accumulate a total of 31,886 units, 6,520 of which were registered in June (growing 51.8%), representing 5.36%. That is to say, that between two technologies with plug currently sold only represent 10% market share, almost 3 points from the European average and very far from other markets such as the French, the German or, logically, the Norwegian and the Dutch. In fact, the projection for the end of the year following the data like this would be just over 120,000 units, well below the 190,000 that had been set as a goal.
