With each car it sells, Tesla earns eight times more than Toyota.

At a time when car prices are skyrocketing, many of us are wondering benefit that the brands get from each car What do you sell. It is logical to think that luxury manufacturers are the ones with the highest margin, in fact some of the best in this area are the Porsche 911, the Aston Martin DBX and the Ferrari F8 Tributo. But surprising data like Tesla earns eight times more than Toyota for each unit sold, which has made the American firm in the lead in terms of quarterly net profits.

This is stated by Nikkei in an analysis of the past quarter (July-September) in which Tesla had obtained about net profit of 3,290 million. It surpassed Toyota for the first time, which remained at 3.15 billion dollars (434.2 billion yen), despite having sold much less. It is true that the Japanese brand has had to face the rise in the price of materials and components, in addition to the costs of ending its production in Russia. What is most striking, however, is Tesla’s 15% net margin.

In that quarter, Tesla sold 344,000 cars and it is estimated that each one took a net profit of $9,570. For its part, Toyota sold 2.62 million cars, but earned just $1,200 each. As we said, the Japanese giant gets an eighth of what Tesla gets from its cars and takes the lead in terms of profitability. We always talk about full brand, it is clear that others generate more with some specific models. And all this seems to be the result of the strategy followed by Tesla in recent months.

In other manufacturers we see very wide ranges, with models from all segments and with different technologies available. However, in Tesla everything is electric and it only has three models. In fact, 90% of its sales correspond to the Model 3 and Model Y, both based on the same platform. In addition, their prices rose and in recent times they are not that affordable like at the beginning. In Spain, the Model 3 starts at 51,990 euros and the Model Y from 51,200 euros. Not to mention Tesla’s sales model, which is direct and doesn’t have to maintain a dealer network like other traditional manufacturers.
