The World Resources Institute Mexico ensures that the Deaths from road accidents in Mexico are a pandemic-level problem, which has not been able to be solved over the years.Therefore, it is necessary a deep effort of road education and speed management in government, companies and specialized organizations.
In our country, one in three traffic deaths is due to speeding.
According to Sonia Aguilar, a WRI specialist, a run over at a car speed of 30 kilometers per hour the person has a 10% risk of death. However, a run over at 50 km/h, the chances of death increase to 85%which reflects the close relationship that speed has with traffic deaths.
Motorcyclists have the highest number of deaths in road accidents, followed by pedestrians and then cyclists.
The specialist proposes that Mexico must move from Bus Rapid Transit mobility models to one called Full Streetin which the conditions of mobility and infrastructure allow greater security for all people.
It is designed for connect people and places with the greatest possible efficiency, safety and convenience, promoting non-motorized mobility, the use of public transport and the quality of public space.
These streets are also inclusive for all its users (regardless of their age or condition), by providing solutions to various problems.
