The utility segment has been a very important pillar in the global business of Mercedes-Benz for decades. For this reason, its line of vehicles intended for work is extensive, and when we talk about urban utility vehicles, the van or van segment is vital, as is the incorporation of new technologies.
That is why Mercedes has just announced a new platform dedicated to electric utility vehicles called VAN.EA (Van Electric Architecture) consisting of three modules designed to fit different types of all-electric vehicles. The front module includes the electric motor that will be common among all of them, scalable core module will accommodate battery packs high voltage of different capacities and the rear module will be offered with or without an additional electric motor that adds all-wheel drive capability.

The first model based on the new platform will debut in 2026, paving the way for more midsize and full-size vans, both for work and premium passenger transport. According to the brand, the new models will focus on “efficiency and performance” in all aspects.
Mercedes differentiated its future utilities according to their use. The VAN.EA-P (private luxury mid-size vans) will meet the VIP transport functions, mobile offices and family leisure activities with a planned range of more than 500 km. It is also expected to include Tier 2 and Tier 3 autonomous driving capability by the end of the decade.

Then we have the VAN.EA-C (Medium and Large Premium Commercial Vans) that They will be designed to meet the needs of professionals in many different settings, including courier, delivery, ambulance, general emergencies, etc.
The utility vehicle division of Mercedes-Benz wants to become even stronger in Europe, which is currently its largest market and accounts for 60% of global sales for the company. It also expects to increase sales in the US, with a focus on premium large commercial vans, and in China, with a focus on luxury private vans. Mercedes’ idea is that by 2030, half of its commercial vehicles will be 100% electric.
