It was in 1993 when Mercedes-Benz decided to equip for the first time an eight-cylinder engine in its acclaimed G-Class. That 500 GE V8 barely came out in a limited run, but it already served to demonstrate what the star brand was capable of and set a precedent. In fact, in consecutive years it would not be separated from that engine, which has reached our days with force. However, now the Mercedes G 500 Final Edition announces the goodbye of this specimen after three decades of success.
It is a limited edition model of which only 1,500 units will be made. There will be 500 with each body color offered, since it can be configured in the tones Obsidian Black, Opalith White Magno and the new Olive Magno. It wants to keep that luxury off-road philosophy with that brand-new 4.0-liter turbo V8 engine under the hood. In this issue he delivers 421 hp and 610 Nm of torque, linked to the nine-speed automatic transmission and the wonderful all-wheel drive that has always accompanied it. With that, it accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds and achieves a top speed of 210 km/h.
The G 500 Final Edition has a very striking configuration that benefits from body-coloured 20-inch AMG wheels, special edition lettering or light projection in the mirrors with the message “Stronger than time”. To this we must add a series of chrome moldings, which are present in various parts of the body, including the ring of the spare wheel that goes on the tailgate.
Inside, the display continues with the door sills illuminated with the message “Final Edition”. It is also signed on the passenger grip or on the back of the key. In addition, its equipment is really complete and benefits from some Two-tone Nappa leather seats, adapted to exterior painting. The leather covers everything from the trunk to the headlining in a masterful way. They could not miss the Active Multicontour Seat Package Plus or the Burmester surround sound system.
