New Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W223): launch in Argentina, from US$ 370,000
Mercedes-Benz S-Class

R.eaffirming its commitment to the most luxurious and exclusive niche in the market, Mercedes-Benz presented the new S-Class in Argentina, its flagship among sedans and the highest expression of refinement and technology globally. Available upon request and with endless configurations to customize each unit to suit the client, it stands out for its advanced comfort, safety and driving assistance systems, as well as for the performance and efficiency of its micro-hybrid mechanics.

“The S-Class is the best-selling luxury sedan in the world. The current generation offers our customers innovation, safety, comfort and quality at a level never seen before. The S-Class is confirmation of Mercedes-Benz’s desire to build the best cars in the world. It is the heart of the brand and represents like no other range the fascination of the Mercedes-Benz brand, which is expressed in legendary technique and artisan tradition, combined with advanced digital innovations. The S-Class combines artificial intelligence techniques with more than 135 years of experience in automobile manufacturing.” said Roberto Gasparetti, Managing Director of Cars of Mercedes-Benz Argentina.

Mercedes-Benz S-ClassThese are its main features:

The new:

It is the new generation of the Mercedes-Benz flagship and today it has no direct competitor in our market. It brings together the latest developments and the most advanced technologies available from the brand and comes in a single version, which is configured at the owner’s request and taste, with mild-hybrid mechanics that combines efficiency with outstanding performance, taking into account its imposing size.

The S-Class is today the largest benchmark in its category, with an unprecedented technological arsenal and as often happens, a large part of its systems are being incorporated by the rest of the star’s range. At the design level, it does show something of continuity, at least on the outside. Mercedes-Benz managed to give this huge 5.18-meter-long sedan -5.29 meters in the extended-length version that arrives in our country- a refined, elegant and attractive aesthetic, but which at the same time conveys sophistication and sportiness .

Mercedes-Benz S-ClassIn the front sector, the huge chrome grill stands out -being the only model of the brand that offers it as standard instead of the one with the logo in the center- and the emblem above, together with the showy LED headlights. Below, the large air intakes of the bumper give it that sporty air that we mentioned, as well as the multi-spoke alloy wheels. Its silhouette is quite similar to that of its predecessor, but with a somewhat smoother rear finish and with headlights reminiscent of those of the CLA, plus the double chrome exhaust outlet. A particular detail that contributes to its very low CX 0.22 aerodynamic coefficient is that the door handles are fully embedded and only emerge when the vehicle key is brought closer.

Undoubtedly, the revolutionary is beginning to be observed indoors: the new W223 completely dispenses with the traditional center console. In its place, a huge 12.8” Oled screen is housed from where various functions of the vehicle will be operated. The latest evolution of the MBUX multimedia system developed together with NVIDIA has a notable improvement in voice commands and interaction with the driver: the “Hey Mercedes/Hola Mercedes” assistant is capable of understanding and responding to user requirements in up to 27 languages. It also has two cameras that observe the driver and artificial intelligence software to reproduce suggestions based on his driving style, while also controlling the level of attention, suggesting a break if necessary. The technological display is completed with four other displays, one for the 100% digital instrumentation configurable for the driver, two screens for the rear seats and one in the central tunnel, also at the rear, for the air conditioning. And that’s not all, it has a head-up display with augmented reality and projection of commands on the asphalt with LED headlights.

Mercedes-Benz S-ClassBut there are many other details that cannot be seen with the naked eye where the S-Class surprises and makes a difference. The most notorious is the directional rear axle, which can rotate up to 10º, which means that unlike other vehicles that equip a similar system and it is hardly noticeable, in this case the rotation of the wheels is really evident and helps to enable maneuver in very confined spaces despite its enormous size. Another novelty is the adaptive suspension with the PRE-SAFE Impulse Side system, which, in the event of detecting an imminent side collision, raises the body several centimeters so that the impact is absorbed by the structure of the vehicle and not by softer parts such as the doors. In terms of safety, it also has front airbags for the rear passengers, located in the front seatbacks so that the occupants traveling in the rear do not hit their head or knees with the front seats, also reducing the risk of neck injuries. As if this were not enough, along with the traditional blind spot alert, it adds another for the descent of passengers that indicates to the occupants if a vehicle is approaching at the moment they are going to open the doors.

As for its advanced driving assistance systems, a novelty is the Active Steering Assist, which detects the proximity of an emergency vehicle such as an ambulance, fire brigade or police and makes the S-Class move to another lane to give way. step (available in some markets). Likewise, as an evolution of the Park Assist system, it can now park autonomously parallel or perpendicular thanks to its cameras with 360º vision and 12 ultrasonic sensors.
